Accounts
Please pay at the time of your pet's consultation/surgery. If you have any difficulties with this you need to advise us before presenting your animal. We reserve the right to refuse credit.
Interest and statement fees are charged on all outstanding accounts. Debt collection will incur extra fees.
After Hours Service
We utilise the services of the Christchurch After Hours Veterinary Clinic to provide 24 hour care for our patients when we are closed. Their telephone number is 366 1052. They provide an excellent service.
Animal Osteopath/Physiotherapy
We can refer you to a local animal Osteopath to help with musculoskeletal problems. Our own physiotherapist is due to start offering animal physiotherapy services in-clinic by September 2009, for our clients and referral clients. We expect this to be a popular service particularly for animals recovering from surgery and injuries.
Cat Ward
Where hospitalised cats can relax (away from noisy dogs), in luxurious warm, cages.
Cattery on site: Cats At The Vets. Your cat’s holiday destination.
Child friendly
We are a child friendly practice. Please feel free to include your children.
Dentistry
We have an ultrasonic dental scaler and a high-speed dental drill and polishing unit for cleaning and polishing teeth, and extracting diseased teeth with minimal trauma to your pet. We also have special equipment for carrying out rabbit and rodent dentistry, including molar or incisor trimming or extraction.
Dermatology Referrals
Duncan Graham visits the clinic to examine a variety of dermatological (skin) cases referred to him. Click here for further information.
Dog Ward
With lovely underfloor heating and huge cages, where dogs can recover in peace. The cages are placed so that neighbouring dogs cannot see each other, so should not feel threatened.
Equipment
We offer full Medical, Diagnostic, Surgical, Dental and X-Ray Facilities. Our equipment is modern and of a high standard and includes: X-Ray • ECG • Humphreys Anaesthetic units • Isoflurane Gas Anaesthesia • On-site blood chemistry analyser and laboratory. All equipment is regularly serviced and calibrated.
Heart diseases
We offer advanced diagnostics for pets with heart diseases, including x-ray and ecg, and referral to specialist services for Doppler ultrasound if needed.
Heating
We have invested in an advanced heating system to ensure comfortable temperatures throughout the clinic, especially in wards, and installed under floor heating through the dog kennels.
Homoeopathy
This service is available through Sylvia – please enquire if you are interested. Please note that she only provides this service now to existing clients and does not take referrals.
House calls
We are happy to come to your home to examine and treat your pet, or if you would like to have your pet euthanased at home when the time comes.
Isolation Ward
We have a special ward in the clinic for isolation of infectious disease cases with intensive care.
Laboratory
We have an on-site blood chemistry analyser (Vet-Scan) which can provide pre-anaesthetic blood testing, geriatric pet checks and a range of biochemistry panels – with results available within 15 minutes.
The speed of returning results is proving very popular, and removing the need for waiting for many test results to be returned from outsite laboratories. Our Laboratory is also equipped for urine testing and microscopy. We do cytology for ear and skin infections. Testing for FIV and FeLV in cats, Giardia and Parvovirus are done on site, with rapid results. We are also in close proximity to Gribbles Veterinary Laboratory for any testing which is not done on-site.
Microchipping
From the 1st of July 2006 all newly registered dogs must be microchipped. This is available now for all cats and dogs, to provide permanent identification of your pet. We strongly recommend microchipping all pets – it’s always a relief when a stray dog or cat is brought in and we can reunite it with the owners immediately because it has a chip.
The New Zealand Companion Animal Database records details of microchipped pets for a small fee, and we recommend you register your pet here (as well as the council database for dogs).
Parking
We offer free onsite parking. There is space for disabled parking, and full disabled access to the clinic. There are 8 car parks on site and plenty along Brougham Street just along from the clinic.
Pet foods
We stock premium pet foods. We keep Royal Canin, Hills and Iams/Eukanuba veterinary and prescription diets in stock. Any foods or bag sizes which we do not keep in stock can be ordered with reception in advance, and we will get them in and keep them aside for you. Please ask if we do not have the one you require.
Prescriptions, repeat
The law regarding the dispensing of Prescription Drugs states clearly that the maximum time span over which repeats can be supplied without seeing your animal is 6 months. You will not be supplied with more after the script has expired without consulting with the vets.
The nurse will advise you at the time of your last repeat that you need to schedule a revisit appointment.
Please phone or email to order your prescription at least 24 hours prior to collection.
Rabbit Ward
We understand rabbits! They are a prey species, think they’re pretty special and shouldn’t be lumped in the same ward with predators (i.e. dogs and cats). So we’ve built them their own space in the new clinic, where they can relax away from all those carnivores. We can also look after yours when you’re on holiday if needed.
Radioactive Iodine Treatment Unit
For treating hyperthyroid cats – should be operational soon.
Surgical and Radiology Suites
Sterile surgical suite, and a dedicated imaging/xray room.
Veterinary Information Network
This is a worldwide network of veterinarians aimed at sharing information and providing access to specialists in all veterinary fields. We subscribe to this network and find it an invaluable resource – where we can ask specialists for input on cases, access drug information, search for articles from all veterinary and medical publications, and keep up to date, informed and motivated.
